Donauwörth is situated in the centre of Northern Swabia, right next to the foothills of the Franconian and Swabian Jurassic system. It is also situated on the crossing of some important biking trails: the biking trail along the Romantic Road, the biking trail among the German part of the Danube and the biking trail along the Via Claudia Augusta/Via Raetica. The biking trails around the Free Imperial Town of Donauwörth offer a variety of characteristically diverse landscapes:

• to the North West there is the geologically unique region of the Ries, which was created by a meteorite 15 million years ago
• to the North East there is the region of the Monheimer Alb in the Altmühltal National Park
• in the South East there is the Danube and the Lech
• in the South there is the National Park of Augsburg and the Westliche Wälder
• to the West ther is the Kesseltal, one of the most recent recreation areas of Bavaria

The tours mainly go along well maintained biking trails, country lanes and low frequency roads. You might have to pass some short streches of unmaintained lanes some of which might force you to get off your bicycle and walk, but you will be rewarded by the unforgettably beautiful scenery around you.
